Description

A classic Homemade Cherry Pie recipe that combines tart cherries with a buttery, flaky crust using time-saving shortcuts.


Ingredients

2 (9-inch) Pie Crusts
56 cups Tart Cherries
3/4 cup Granulated Sugar
4 tablespoons Cornstarch
1 tablespoon Lemon Juice
1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
1 tablespoon Unsalted Butter
1 Egg + 1 tsp Water (for egg wash)


Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and prepare the pie crust in a 9-inch pie plate
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine pitted cherries, sugar, cornstarch, lemon juice, and vanilla extract. Toss gently
  3. Fill the prepared pie crust with the cherry mixture and dot with cubed butter
  4. Cover with the second crust, trim the excess, crimp the edges, and brush with the egg wash
  5. Bake for 45-55 minutes on a baking sheet
  6. Cool for at least two hours before slicing

Notes

For sweet cherries, reduce sugar by 1/4 cup.

To make a vegan version, use vegan pie crust and almond milk for egg wash.
