Instructions
- Whisk together the milk, sugar, and salt over medium heat until dissolved without boiling. Temper egg yolks by adding warm milk mixture gradually while whisking
- Heat the custard mixture over low-medium heat, stirring constantly until it reaches 170°F (77°C). Strain into a bowl with heavy cream, add vanilla, and chill for 4 to 12 hours
- Churn the chilled base in an ice cream maker according to directions. Add M&Ms during the last two minutes of churning
- Transfer to an airtight container, smooth the top, cover, and freeze for at least 4 hours before serving
