Description
This One Pan Kielbasa and Broccoli Rice combines savory, smoky sausage with fluffy rice and vibrant green broccoli, creating a complete balanced meal in under thirty minutes.
Ingredients
14 ounces Smoked Kielbasa, sliced into 1/2-inch rounds
1.5 cups Long-Grain White Rice, rinsed thoroughly
3 cups Fresh Broccoli Florets, cut into bite-sized pieces
3 cups Chicken Broth, low-sodium preferred
1 medium Yellow Onion, finely diced
3 large Garlic Cloves, minced or pressed
1 tablespoon Olive Oil, for browning the meat
1 teaspoon Smoked Paprika, adds a lovely color and depth
Salt and Pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Heat the olive oil in a large, deep skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sliced kielbasa and cook for about 4 to 5 minutes, turning occasionally, until the edges are golden brown and crispy. Remove the sausage from the pan and set it aside on a plate, leaving the rendered fat in the skillet
- Lower the heat to medium. Add the diced onion to the skillet and sauté for 3 minutes until softened. Stir in the minced garlic and smoked paprika, cooking for another 60 seconds until fragrant
- Add the rinsed white rice directly to the pan with the onions and garlic. Stir the rice constantly for 2 minutes to toast it and prevent sticking
- Pour in the chicken broth and stir to scrape up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan. Return the browned kielbasa to the skillet. Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes
- Quickly lift the lid, scattering the broccoli florets over the top of the rice. Replace the lid immediately and continue simmering for another 5 to 7 minutes until the rice is tender and liquid is absorbed
- Remove the pan from heat and let sit, covered, for 5 minutes. Fluff the rice with a fork and incorporate the broccoli and sausage before serving
Notes
For a leaner option, substitute turkey kielbasa or a plant-based sausage alternative.
Use a heavy-bottomed skillet to distribute heat evenly and prevent burning.
